Harold Dean OOSTHOEK, "Dean O" as affectionately known by all, was born in Douds, Iowa, on March 28, 1929. He went to school in Birmingham, Iowa. Dean married Nellie (FISHEL) OOSTHOEK on June 26, 1953. They enjoyed 66 years of a loving and caring marriage. Dean worked as a bookkeeper for Dexter Co. for more than 20 years, and then went on to work at Falco for many years. He proudly served his country and was a veteran of Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Dean and Nellie were dedicated members of the FourSquare Gospel Church in Fairfield. He wore many hats around the church over the years, bookkeeper, head usher, caretaker, the list goes on and on. He touched everyone's life in so many ways. He enjoyed singing and listening to music. Often times his rich voice could be heard serenading the residents of the Parkview Care Facility during his time of residency there. He enjoyed praying with and for the others around him. Dean enjoyed volunteering many hours at various organizations around Fairfield. He always was the one to go to if you needed help, something repaired or a creative way to use an old treasure. Many hours could be spent with Dean talking of days gone by, of fun times, playing cards or cribbage. Dean and Nellie enjoyed many years of gardening together and caring for the beautiful flowers they planted around their home.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lena (VANDERWEFF) OOSTHOEK; and his mother, Margaret CHANNEL; and his son-in-law, Dan WATSON.

Mr. OOSTHOEK is survived by Nellie OOSTHOEK, his wife; his children, (Terry (Betty) OOSTHOEK of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Debra WATSON of Fairfield, Iowa; his sisters, Marie HARWOOD of Fairfield, Iowa, Marlene WIBBEN of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Donna Ray COWEN of Birmingham, Iowa; grandchildren, (Nicholas (Casey) WILBURN of Bell, Mo., Travis (Erica) OOSTHOEK of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tara OOSTHOEK of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Caitlyn WILBURN, Landon WILBURN, Braxton WILBURN and Mason WILBURN all of Bell, Mo., and Teegen OOSTHOEK and Tyler OOSTHOEK of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
