A former well known Jefferson county resident passed away early this morning at his home in Burlington, Iowa (note: in Des Moines Co., IA), following an illness for the past five years.
He is John Carl JOHNSON, railroad flagman for the Burlington railroad for 30 years. He moved from the Parsonsville community east of Fairfield to Burlington in 1940.
The body is at the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending. He was brought to the funeral home after he passed away at his home in Burlington at 12:15 a.m. this morning.
John Carl JOHNSON, 53, was born December 26, 1898 (sic - 27 Dec 1897 on his gravestone), in Jefferson county, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred JOHNSON. He was united in marriage on February 25, 1924, to Florence ELLIS who survives. The wedding took place at Galesburg, Illinois.
He was a member of the Eagles lodge (sic - Aerie) and the Brotherhood Union, C. B. & Q. He moved from the Parsonsville community 12 years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. William F. HERGET, Burlington; Mrs Richard WILLS, at home; a son, Wayne C., also at home; and a sister, Mrs. J. B. DOWTY, Richmond, California. He was preceded in death by one son.
