Berniece Helen MARTIN

Berniece Helen MARTIN, 80, of Madison, Wis., died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 1995, at her home.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery southeast of Fairfield. Family visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Heart Association.

Mrs. MARTIN was born Oct. 9, 1914, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Willard R. and Ida Helen GIBERSON BRERETON. She married Joseph M. MARTIN in Mount Pleasant. He died Feb. 19, 1970.

She owned and operated a restaurant for many years before being employed at Mount Pleasant Mental Health Hospital. Being an avid angler, she moved to Wisconsin when she retired and lived there for 16 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.

Surviving are four daughters, Ilene M. HOAGE of Fairfield, Thelma J. HILL of Middletown, Wis., Dr. Rubalyn STAPLES of Mount Pleasant, Helen WALRAVEN of Ottumwa; two sons, Jerry R. MAXWELL of Hartford., Conn., Steven A. HISEL of Richland; a stepdaughter, Bonnie JOHNSON of Douds; a stepson, William Dudley MARTIN of Sigourney; 16 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Harold W. BRERETON of Fairfield; four sisters, Madelene METZ, Lucille KURTZ, Jean JOHNSON, all of Fairfield, and Dorothy WILSON of Rockford, Ill.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a stepdaughter; a grandson; two stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Hollis J. BRERETON and Glenn BRERETON.
