Pleasant PlainEugene HANSHAW, 65, of Pleasant Plain, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA). He was born June 24, 1954, in Washington to Albert and Inez PICKERING HANSHAW. He grew up in Pleasant Plain and attended Fairfield High School. Gene married Tierney ORMS in Brighton on April 4, 1975. He was a member of First Church of God in Brighton, Wednesday Coffee Group and Freedom Trikers Bike Family, where he helped raise money for children's charities.
Gene is survived by his wife, Tierney, of Pleasant Plain and three children, Mindy SMITH (Lance) of Fairfield and Tierney CROSWHITE (James) and Dustin HANSHAW (Mindy), both of Pleasant Plain; seven grandchildren, Shy HAUMERSEN (Sean), Giuseppi SMITH, Jaya AHLUWALIA, Manny FTWI, Ava HANSHAW, Sebastian FTWI and Bexley CROSWHITE; two great-grandchildren, Harper and Ashlyn HAUMERSEN; one sister, Carma PRINGLE (Kenneth) of Brighton; and two foster children, Ruthie and Curtis GOMES.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; three brothers, Jim, Larry and Jerry HANSHAW; and one sister, Janet CROSBY.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Brighton First Church of God with Pastors Rich Hughes and Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the church. Memorials to the family may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 205 North St., Brighton, IA 52540.
