GENE MICHAEL LUEDTKE

Gene Michael LUEDTKE, 73, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at Jefferson County Health Center. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Behner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Craig Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carnegie Museum or First Lutheran Church. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Louis LUEDTKE, 1938 185th St., Fairfield, IA 52556.

Gene was born Nov. 4, 1945, in Fairfield to August and Vera (BURGER) LUEDTKE. He married Marian Louise KELLOGG on July 26, 1969 in Park Forest, Ill.

Gene lived in Fairfield all his life. He worked for 43 years at the Fairfield Ledger as advertising director. Gene was a member of the Elks and Rotary Club. He was president of the Carnegie Museum board, Carnegie Foundation board, secretary for the McElhinny House board, Maasdam Barn board, History Preservation board, Ambassador of Chamber of Commerce board and Iowa State Alumni Association. Gene was an avid Iowa State fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also had an interest in Fairfield history and genealogy.

Gene will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Louise; two children, Nathan (Julia) LUEDTKE of Waynesboro, Va., and Meghan (Brandon) JONES of Grimes; and five grandchildren, Nicholas LUEDTKE, Avery LUEDTKE, Holly LUEDTKE, Molli JONES and Maddyn JONES.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim.
