N. M. BRIGHT, a well known old resident and business man of this city, died very suddenly Friday night shortly after 10 o'clock. He had started home from his store a few minutes earlier accompanied by his son N. S. The latter was delayed on the road, and Mr. B. went on alone. He had nearly reached his home on Third South street, when he was suddenly attacked by a disease of the heart to which he was subject, fell to the sidewalk and expired apparently without a struggle. Here he was found by a party of boys a few minutes later, and, although medical assistance was immediately summoned, he was found to be beyond human aid. Mr. BRIGHT was born in Marshall county, Va., July 30, 1819. He was married in Ohio in 1842, to Miss Isabella KELLEY (sic - KELLY), and removed to Fairfield in December, 1845. Three children were born to them, two of whom are now living--his son N. S. and daughter, Mrs. P. I. LABAGH. Mrs. BRIGHT died in this city in 1874. In early years Mr. B taught school in our city. For many years he had been a member of the Presbyterian church. He was postmaster of Fairfield under President Buchanan's administration. The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon from the family residence, Dr. Magill conducting the services. It was largely attended, the old settlers of this city attending in a body. The remains were interred in the evergreen cemetery.

Page 3, Column 3DEATH OF N. M. BRIGHT.
A few weeks ago Mr. N. M. BRIGHT, of this city, was suddenly prostrated by heart disease. He recovered sufficiently to attend to business at the store part of each day, and on Friday evening remained down town till about 10 o’clock. His son, N. S. BRIGHT, was detained a few moments and the old gentleman walked on alone. A few moments later he was found lying dead on the sidewalk near home. A doctor was summoned at once, but could give no hope or help.
Funeral services were held at the residence at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Doctor Magill, of whose church Mr. BRIGHT had long been a faithful member. The old settlers attended in a body.
N. M. BRIGHT was born in Marshall county, Va., July 30, 1819. In childhood sickness stopped the growth of his left arm, and this incapacity for hard work led him to engage in school teaching. He was married in 1842 at Bellsville, Ohio, to Isabella KELLY. They came to Fairfield in December 1845. Mrs. BRIGHT died in 1874. Of the three children born to them, N. S. BRIGHT and Mrs. P. I. LABAUGH survive their parents. Mr. BRIGHT was postmaster during part of Buchanan’s administration. In 1857 he engaged in the hardware business.
With his one hand, a clear head, and pure heart he achieved more than average success in life, and exerted the highest kind of influence. No nobler type of Christian manhood has ever existed in our community.
