San Diego, CAFrancis Dale ROBERTS, beloved husband, father, family member and friend, died peacefully in his San Diego home on May 16, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Born on September 23, 1934, he was 84 years young at the time of his passing.
Known as Frank, he was born to Bernard Joseph ROBERTS and Margaret Louise SASSEEN in Batavia, Iowa, the second of three sons. Raised in Richland, his upbringing created a person of simple needs - both family and friends were the foundation of his entire life. He loved most, hated none.
Frank is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn (nee DAILEY), his son Lon (Kerri) of Palmdale, and his daughter Karla KEHOE (Joe) of San Diego, his grandchildren Lindsay, Evan (Amy), Jesse, and great granddaughter Kassidy. His surviving extended family includes his brother Donald ROBERTS of Milton, Wisconsin, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends that were considered family. He also leaves behind his over-loved dog, Lola and Miss Kitty.
Frank was a jack of all trades and a mechanical wiz, his resume included many types of work until he landed a union position as a power engineer in the 70's. He put in over 30 years combined with Hyatt Corp., and Kaiser where he retired as Chief Engineer.
His 84 years of living included volunteer and charity work, he was a deacon and choir member. He loved country and western music, motorcycles, fishing, boating and camping. He would drive his motorhome anywhere, loved the High Sierras, and dropping a few bucks at the casino. He especially loved a good meal. He was a tinkerer, had every type of tool known to man, and read the newspaper every day. He never asked for directions and never read the instructions until afterwards.
He often quoted his father and stayed true to his midwestern roots, loved Hee Haw and Matt Dillon. He often brought home stray animals, their home was never without a cat and a dog that he "found" at work. Only good can be said about a man who was loved by all animals and all children - he was a good man.
He will be missed by those who knew him, but his life was well spent, and the wonderful memories he gave us is indelible. Frank's Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Christ Community Church, 9535 Kearny Villa Road, San Diego 92126.
