DEATH CLAIMS RACHEL BEHNE

Death came suddenly early Sunday morning to a long-time resident of Fairfield. She is Mrs. John BEHNE, 64, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Otto BURKE, 304 W. Harrison street.

Mrs. BEHNE was in her usual health all day Saturday. In the evening she didn't feel well, so went to her daughter's home where she retired. She passed away suddenly about 1 a.m. Sunday. Mrs. BEHNE's home is at 604 W. Monroe street.

Last rites will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Dr. E. A. Piper in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Rachel BEHNE was born July 3, 1883, at Chariton, Iowa, the daughter of the late William and Rachel COX DESPAIN. The family moved to Fairfield when she was a small child, and she had lived in this community since. She was united in marriage November 16, 1925 to John BEHNE, who preceded his wife in death March 24, 1947.

Mrs. BEHNE was one of 18 children in the DESPAIN family. Only six now survive. She was a member of the Lutheran church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Otto BURKE, two grandchildren, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Mary GRAHAM, Ottumwa; Mrs. James MANARY, Fairfield; Peter, Fairfield; Jerry and Joseph, Burlington; and Theodore, East Moline, Illinois.

Note: Buried in Lot SDiv.2-001, with third husband John BEHNE. She was first married to Amon PICKETT, second to Caleb (a/k/a Charles) PICKETT; and third to John BEHNE. Amon and Caleb/Charles were brothers.
