JOHN ARTHUR EMONIN
Marion, IA

John Arthur EMONIN, age 73, of Marion, Iowa, died Thursday, April 19, 2019 at Mercy Hallmar Residential Care in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (note: in Linn Co., IA).

John was born in Fairfield, Iowa, on May 8, 1945, to Emile and Winnifred (FRESHWATER) EMONIN. He grea up southeast of Fairfield and attended Bradshaw (one-room) School. He later attended Pence Junior High then Fairfield High School. At the age of sixteen John drove a bus for Fairfield Public Schools. He also drove a gravel truck and worked as a farm hand during his high school years. John graduated from Fairfield High School in1963 (sic), and went to work for Fairfield International, Inc. as an assistant parts manager. He later became the head parts manager and sometimes service manager as well at Fairfield International, retiring in 1990 due to health concerns. John also worked form 1907-1973 as co-service manager at Jefferson Motors before returning to Fairfield International in mid-1973. He, along with his wife and parents-in-law were part owners in Midwest Speed Sale Company selling Standardbred horses and horse tack.

He married Emily Lorraine HINSHAW on June 6, 1969, at Richland Friends Church in Richland, Iowa. They were married 49 years and were planning a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary on June 6th of this year. After John and Emily were married, they moved to Birmingham, Iowa, where they lived until moving to Richland in 1970, then moving to Fairfield in 1978. Following Emily's retirement in 2004, they moved to Marion, Iowa, to be nearer their daughter and her family.

John's first love was his family. His second loves included antique farm equipment and World War II history. He and Emily also loved to travel. They were blessed to take many wonderful vacations, often as a benefit of John's employment with IH. They traveled to Ireland, Hawaii, Acapulco, and the Bahamas. They also traveled to many destinations throughout the United States creating lifelong memories together.

John will be greatly missed by his wife, Emily; his daughter Lorraine (Don) POTTER, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his four grandsons, Grant POTTER, Benjamin POTTER, Elliot POTTER, and Abraham POTTER; his brother-in-law, Korwin HINSHAW and wife Judi; sister-in-law, Sallie HAYES and husband Terry; sister-in-law, Reka HINSHAW; along with several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Winnifred EMONIN; his parents-in-law, Kermit and Janet HINSHAW; his brother, Richard EMONIN; and his sister, Donna (EMONIN) and her husband Kevin HINSHAW; and one brother-in-law, John HINSHAW.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at the Fairfield Friends Church in Fairfield, Iowa, with Pastor Tim Carter and Pastor Len Maselli officiating. Visitaiton will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. also at Fairfield Friends Church. Interment will be at Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa following a luncheon at the church (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Memorials may be made to Richland Friends Cemetery or Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Emily EMONIN, 3142 Silver Oak Trail, Marion, Iowa 52302. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is assisting the family.
