DAVID T. KING
Douds

David T. KING, 92, formerly of Douds, Iowa passed away March 11, 2019 at Van Buren Co. Hospital. He was a resident at Keosauqua Health Care Center (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Born January 3, 1927 near Hillsboro, Lee Co, Iowa to Jarry J. and Helen HIXON KING. He married Sara M. KNECHT on January 6, 1949 at St. Aloysius Church in Eldon, IA. They resided on a farm on Highway 16 between Douds and Birmingham where they raised their family.

At the age of 4 David and his family moved to Van Buren Co. near Kilbourn where he attended Oak Grove country school, then graduating from high school at Douds High School in 1945. After high school he joined the Navy and became an airplane mechanic. When he returned, he worked with his father farming until he and Sara purchased their own farm. David had many jobs during his lifetime while farming including working at Parsons College as an electrician/refrigeration technician, working at Pedrick Furniture and working at Van Buren Community School District setting up a maintenance program.

In 1986 they sold the farm and moved to Hanover, PA where he managed a race horse farm for a friend until he retired in 1992 and they returned to Douds. After returning he and Sara transported Amish to various parts of the USA for 10 years. He was a member of the John Hyson Reneker Post and was a past Commander and Post Service Officer. He had served on the County ASCS Board and was past president of the Douds Community Club.

David was a family man, enjoying family gatherings, spending time with grandkids and great grandkids. He like (sic) working with and being around horses, he liked to hunt and shooting sports, and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sara, infant grandson Caleb KING, three sisters, Joyce ANDERSON, Opal ROESNER and Dulcy MOORE.

Surviving are a son Terry (Pat) KING, four daughters , Lynn (John) MANNING, Suzanne (David) CARROLL, and Leanne (Jerry) MARLAY, Ingrid HOUDENAERT (Belgium),9 grandchildren, Tracey (Lisa) KING, Jason (Amber) KING, Kerri (Scott) EICHHORN, Ethan (Alison) MANNING, Amy MANNING, Molly (Chris) STARKE, Kyle MARLAY, Alexis (Kevin) OOL, and Isaac CARROLL, 10 great grandchildren, two sisters, Doris (Verne) RAMSEY, Nannette HOLCOMB, many nieces and nephews and close friend Betty Topping.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2019, with family present from 5 pm to 7pm. Funeral will be at 2pm on Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA. Memorials may be made to the Kilbourn Cemetery and John Hyson Reneker Legion Post and left at the funeral home or mailed to 14940 Juniper Trail, Birmingham, IA 52535.
