DOROTHY B. BROWN
Orange City, IA

Mrs. Dorothy BROWN, age 92, of Orange City, Iowa, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, March 20, at 3:00pm, at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery Chapel, 3002 North Court Street, Ottumwa. The Rev. Michael Hardeman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the cemetery. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Wednesday at the cemetery chapel.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Dorothy Bernice was born on January 8, 1927, to Lloyd and Eva (KING) OSTEEN in Moulten, Iowa. She was raised in Ottumwa, where she graduated from Ottumwa High School.

In 1946, she married John "Don" BROWN. They lived, worked, and raised their family in Fairfield, Iowa. After Don's retirement as an elementary principal, they returned to Ottumwa. He passed away in 2016, after more than sixty years of marriage.

Dorothy then moved to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, in 2016, where she enjoyed more time with family. Family remembering and cherishing memories of Dorothy and life shared with her, include her two sons and their wives, Jerry and Jane BROWN and Bruce and Beth BROWN; two grandchildren and their spouses, Benjamin and Jill BROWN and Elizabeth BROWN HARDEMAN and Michael HARDEMAN; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Teagan BROWN and Neriah, Rinah, and Micaiah BROWN HARDEMAN; a brother, William OSTEEN; two sisters, Charlotte CARR and Connie SWANSON; and nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald OSTEEN; a sister-in-law, Yolanda OSTEEN; and two brothers-in-law, Jack CARR and Roger SWENSON (sic).

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved and sacrificed herself for her family. Her loving and caring ways, as well as her sense of humor, will be missed by those who knew her.

Her family is grateful for all the ways people at the Prairie Ridge Care Center, the Orange City Area Health System and Home Health and Hospice, and the American Reformed Church in Orange City cared for her. Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice, 400 Central Avenue Northwest or the Prairie Ridge Care Center, 1005 Seventh Street Northeast, both in Orange City, Iowa 51041.
