ALLEEN JOAN HEDGE
Fremont, IA

Alleen Joan HEDGE, age 86 of Fremont, died January 25, 2019 in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA). She was born on July 10, 1932, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of James Bryan. and Wanda Elizabeth RUGGLES. She attended Fremont High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. After graduating high school, Alleen attended Parsons College in Fairfield and earned her teaching degree.

Alleen was united in marriage to Sen. H. Kay HEDGE on July 15, 1951 in Fremont, IA. To this union three children were born, Kimberly, Kevin and Mark. Together they shared over 65 years before Kay's passing on October 28, 2016. Alleen helped Kay on the family farm in Fremont. She was very involved with the Fremont community and surrounding area; she was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, P.E.O. Chapter X, United Methodist Women, C.C.C., Just-A-Mere Club, Hospice Support Group of Ottumwa, and was a 4-H Leader.

She was a very talented artist who had several paintings entered into the Iowa State Fair. Alleen was on the Indian Hills Community College Art Board and was a member of the Iowa Water Color Society. She enjoyed painting, shopping, socializing and playing pitch with her card club for over 60 years. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Her family includes; a daughter and her husband, Dr. Kimbery and Charles BROWN of Ottumwa; two sons and their wives, Kevin and Jane HEDGE of Ottumwa and Mark and Cindy HEDGE of Fremont; eight grandchildren, Danielle (Gil) WUKITSCH, Melissa (Dr. Michael) NGUYEN, Dr. Kirsten (Dr. Scott) RADKE, Arielle BROWN, Kelsey (Bryan) HENDERSON, Hayden (Amanda Brandt) HEDGE, Hannah (Martin Sattell) HEDGE, and Sean HEDGE; five great grandchildren, Ava WUKITSCH, Grant WUKITSCH, Cora NGUYEN, Iris NGUYEN, Blair HENDERSON and Hallie HENDERSON; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn GARDNER.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont with Reverend Bob Voels officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont with the family present at the church from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorial may be made to the Alleen Hedge Memorial Fund and will be used to benefit the Fremont United Methodist Church and the Fremont High School Alumni Banquet Scholarship.
