BrightonKenneth D. PAUL, 84, of rural Brighton, died Sunday November 11, 2018, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was born January 3, 1934 in Jefferson County to Doyle J. and Nellie M. RUBEY PAUL. He graduated from Fairfield High School. Kenny married Mary Lu HAYES in Washington January 1, 1953. He lived and farmed his entire life in the Brighton area, was a lifetime member of the Brighton Community Church, joined the Iowa Army National Guard in 1951 with the 133rd Infantry (Red Bull Division) and proceeded to the 224th Engineers and served 41 years, retiring in 1992 following participation in Desert Storm.
Kenny enjoyed collecting, restoring and parading antique tractors at Midwest Old Threshers Reunion pulling a wagon load of grandchildren.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Mary Lu, 4 children: Cindy PAUL, Marshalltown, Rick PAUL (Nancy) of Monroe, Kathy GOEDKEN (Kelly Soukup) of Washington and Jacky WALKER (Doug) of Washington and good family friend Chuck Peck of Martel, IA, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one sister Roberta DURIAN (Fred) of Iowa City and one brother, Richard PAUL (Sandy) of Mt Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Brighton Community Church with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Iowa Army National Guard and Richland American Legion Post No. 504. Visitation will also be held at the Brighton Community Church Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Memorials for the Brighton Lions Club or Disabled American Veterans may be left at the church or mailed to the family's attention at P.O. Box 337, Brighton, IA 52560. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is assisting the family.
