Iowa CityLuanna (Stubby) KLEIN passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, Oaknoll Retirement Residence Iowa City, Iowa under Hospice Care. She was born September 16, 1920, to Clara (PICKFORD) BARNES and Earl O BARNES at home near Salem, Iowa. Her four older brothers nicknamed her Stubby which would be the name she responded to for many years in Fairfield, Iowa.
Stubby graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1938. She participated in volleyball and basketball while a student at MPHS.
After graduation, Stubby became a "Soda Jerk" at Potter Drug in Mount Pleasant. While working there she met a young Surveyor by the name of Marvin H KLEIN who was working for an engineering firm at the Burlington Ordnance Plant and living in Mount Pleasant. She would later travel by train to Fort George Wright Army Base in Spokane, Washington to marry Marvin on September 12, 1942, in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
Stubby lived with her parents in Fairfield, Iowa during Marvin's years of service and the two made their home there after his service was over. While living with her parents, Stubby worked as a clerk and "Soda Jerk" at Martin Rexall Drug. Upon the opening of the Inez Fashion Shop in 1959, Stubby began a career in fashion and worked at the shop as a clerk and then manager until the shop closed in 1995.
Stubby remained active with several bridge clubs, her Methodist Church Circle, the T.T.T. Society and the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary. Stubby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin, her brothers, Harold, Dale, Gene and Lyle (Butch) and sisters Eleanor and Nellie.
Those remaining to honor her memory are daughter Judith KLEIN HULING (Dave), son Terry M. KLEIN, grandson Bradley TOMSON (Marsha), great granddaughters Courtney TOMSON (Danny Leeper), Paige LENZ (Chris) and great-great grandsons Adriel LEEPER, Kyree LEEPER and Flynn LENZ, in addition to a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Friday, November 16, 2018, at Behner Funeral Home with Reverend Beth Harbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a luncheon and visitation at the First United Methodist Church, Fairfield.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Iowa City of Woman's Circle @ First United Methodist Church "luncheon ladies".
