DEATH SUDDEN TO FARMER AS HE DRIVES CAR

BRIGHTON, Iowa, Feb. 1 -- A prominent Jefferson county resident died suddenly of a heart attack late yesterday afternoon while driving his car near Perlee. He is Paul KASOWSKI (sic - KASOWSKY), 63, who resides at East Pleasant Plain.

The victim had been to the Richard Cubbage farm to have his car radiator repaired, and had just started home when his car headed into the ditch a short distance from the Cubbage home.

Mr. Cubbage rushed to the car and found Mr. KASOWSKI slumped to the right of the wheel. He died seconds later.

Coroner Jack Raymond and Deputy Sheriff Ralph Brown were called to the scene, but Mr. Raymond said this morning there would be no inquest. He said Mr. KASOWSKI died of natural causes.

Mr. Cubbage, who resides on a farm owned by Mrs. John Gilbert and located near Perlee, told officers Mr. KASOWSKI came to his place shortly after 4:00 p.m. and asked if he (Mr. Cubbage) would repair the radiator on his car.

Mr. KASOWSKI requested the work be done at once because he wasn't feeling well and wanted to get back home as soon as possible. He was taken into the Cubbage home where he rested until the car was repaired.

Mr. KASOWSKI then got in his car, drove out of the yard and turned south on the road. After traveling about 40 to 50 feet the car went in the the (sic) ditch. He was dead seconds later.

Rites Thursday

Last rites will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic church in East Pleasant Plain with Rev. Father Paul Wetzstein in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body was taken to the Omar Hoskins funeral home in Brighton where the Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Paul KASOWSKI was born May 20, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry KASOWSKI. He was born west of Germanville and had spent his entire life in Jefferson county.

He was united in marriage January 23, 1917, to Viola THOMPSON. The couple lived on a farm south of Brighton for many years and then moved to East Pleasant Plain where Mr. KASOWSI (sic) operated a portable mill for several years.

Besides his wife he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Lucy BEZYVAK, Mrs. Frank SUPALLA, Mrs. Martha McCLAIN, all of Chicago; Phillip and Frank, both of Fairfield; August, Ottumwa; Ralph, Plano, Illnois; and Edward, Chicago.
