OTTO FRITZ DIES TODAY

Long-time resident of Burr Oak community succumbs after illness

Otto FRITZ, 61, long-time farmer in the Burr Oak vicinity, passed away at 9:30 o'clock this morning at his home on the edge of Brighton. He had been in poor health for the past five years, and suffered a stroke on Sunday from which he failed to recover.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Mr. FRITZ was born in the Burr Oak neighborhood south of Brighton in November, 1879. About 31 years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Rose WEHR of Portsmouth. They lived on a farm in the Burr Oak community for a number of years, and Mr. FRITZ became widely known as an auctioneer as well as a farmer. Approximately 20 years ago they purchased a farm on the south edge of Brighton, where they have made their home.

Surviving are Mrs. FRITZ; one foster-daughter, Catherine WEHR; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph T. KURTZ, Miss Emma FRITZ and Mrs. Bertha PACHA, all of Pleasant Plain; one brother, Edward FRITZ of Mason City; one half-sister, Mrs. Elizabeth KILFOY of Fairfield; and three half-brothers, Martin FRITZ of East Pleasant Plain, John FRITZ of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Joseph FRITZ of San Diego, Calif.

Otto FRITZ, 61, of Brighton Is Dead
Stroke Ends Life Today, After Long Period of Poor Health -- Relatives at Pleasant Plain

BRIGHTON, Jan. 29 -- Otto FRITZ, 61, died this morning at 9:30 at his home just south of the corporation line. He had been in failing health the past few years, and a few days ago suffered a stroke of paralysis.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed awaiting word from relatives in California.

Otto FRITZ was the son of Peter and Angeline FRITZ. He was married 31 years ago to Rosa WEHR of Portsmouth, Iowa. They moved to the farm, where his death occurred, about twenty years ago.

He is survived by his wife, a brother, Edward of Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph KURTZ, Miss Emma FRITZ and Mrs. Bertha PACHA all of Pleasant Plain; three half brothers, Martin FRITZ of Pleasant Plain, John of Los Angeles, Calif., and Joseph of San Diego, Calif., and a half sister, Elizabeth KILFOY of Fairfield.

OTTO JACOB FRITZ

Otto Jacob FRITZ, son of Peter and Angeline FRITZ was born November 24, 1879, near Brighton, Ia., and departed from this life, January 29, 1941, at the age of 61 years, 2 months and five days.

On April 6, 1910, he was married to Rose WEHR in St. Mary's church, Portsmouth, Ia.

Otto FRITZ spent his entire life farming in the Brighton community. He was a prominent auctioneer and real estate dealer and for many years president of the Brighton Telephone Co.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, Kathryn and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Joseph T. KURTZ, Mrs. Frank PACHA and Miss Emma FRITZ of the Pleasant Plain community and John of Los Angeles, Calif.; Joseph of San Diego, Calif., Edward of Mason City, Martin of E. Pleasant Plain and Mrs. Elizabeth KILFOY of Fairfield

Out of town people who attended the funeral were Dr. Leo KILFOY and daughter of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Edward FRITZ of Mason City, John and Walter WEHR of Portsmouth, Ia., Cloyt Neiswanger and daughter Bette of Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent WEHR and Mrs. Clara WEHR of Council Bluffs, Ed WEHR of Davenport.

Requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's church, E. Pleasant Plain Friday Jan. 31 at 9:30 with the Rev. Nicholas Peiffer of Muscatine celebrated the mass as deacon and Rev. A. P. Siedel of Fort Madison as sub-deacon. Rev. Paul Wetzstein, pastor, delivered the sermon.
