Donald Keith ANGSTEAD was born May 8, 1924 in Fairfield, IA to Harold and Nellie NOTT ANGSTEAD. He grew up in Fairfield where he attended school, graduating with the Fairfield High School Class of 1942. On June 7, 1942, Don married his best friend, Maxine BOOTH, who passed away in March, 2005. Don served his country with the Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home to the now century farm where they raised their family. While farming, Don also began working alongside his father as a carpenter. The two worked together for over 30 years, building houses and other construction in Fairfield and the surrounding area. In the early 1970's (sic) Don started working for Jefferson County Maintenance and began a partnership with his son, Ken, owning and operating rental properties. Throughout this time, he maintained his love for carpentry and would help and offer advice to anyone who needed it. Don retired from the county in 1988 which allowed more time for him and Maxine to enjoy camping and traveling. Don was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, as well as the Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie/Club) and Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Maxine (2005); one daughter, Christine Ruth McINTIRE; two brothers, Harold "Coly" ANGSTEAD, Bill ANGSTEAD and a special friend, Maxine Avery.

Left to share his story are his children, James (Barb) ANGSTEAD of Bella Vista, AR, Kenneth (Patsy) ANGSTEAD of rural Fairfield, IA, Mary Carolyn (Marvin) LARSON of rural Fairfield, IA, and M. Julane (Dennis) FRITZ of Indianola, IA; one sister, Harriett GUSTASON of Freeport, IL; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, as well as many extended family and friends.
