DEATH OF THOS. TILSON. -- As men met on coming down town Saturday morning, instead of the usual greeting came from one or another the question, "Have you heard of Tom TILSON's death?" It was in every one's mind and pressed heavily on many hearts. "No one would be missed more than Tom will," was a frequent expression. The familiar way in which every one spoke of him showed his friendly relations to all. A business partner said in husky voice, "He was generous, kind, and perfectly honorable. No one ever knew him to do a mean thing." His fault was, he didn't take care of himself. He had never been a sound man since his service in the army. His death was very sudden and is attributed to a complication of disorders in the nature of a typhoid fever. He had been confined to his bed only two days.

The funeral took place at 1:30 p.m., Monday, from his late residence on West Third street.

Thomas Smith TILSON was born in Troy, New Jersey, April 22, 1846. His parents moved to Ohio when he was quite young and in 1855 came to Fairfield. When but eighteen years old Tom enlisted in Company G, 9th Iowa Cavalry, and served till the close of the war. Returning home, he was married the same year at Richmond, Indiana, to Miss Mariah YOUNG, of Collinsville, Ohio. They returned to this place and Mr. TILSON engaged in business. He had been in the livery business for the last sixteen years.
