CHARLES WILLIAM VAUGHN, JR. (CHARLY)
Bayfield, WI

Charles William VAUGHN, Jr. (Charly), age 68, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018 at his home in Bayfield, Wisconsin. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin June 15, 1949, the first son of Charles William VAUGHN and Betty Ann (ERICKSON) VAUGHN.

Charly grew up on water. A natural athlete, competed in Mendota Yacht Club with John Beck sailing C Class Scows. He enjoyed all water sports, loved the outdoors, and camping in the Boundary Waters.

An accomplished Cross Country Runner at Tilton High School in New Hampshire, he also ran in the Boston Marathon.

Charly loved art. Masters of Fine Arts at UW Madison.

Collector of 18th Century English Pottery. Donated a pottery collection to Madison's Chazen Museum of Art.

2 years at Maharishi University in Switzerland, Charly was a lifelong Transcendental Meditator. Spent time exploring Homer, Alaska, adventures with cousin Scott.

Called Fairfield, Iowa home for many years where he made lasting friendships. Built 2 magnificent log cabins, 2 ponds, and worked in the Building Trades. At his side were Mr. Puss the cat, and Wiggly dog.

He loved red-haired women, including wives 1, 2 and 3. Marriage was not lasting; he thrived best in peace and solitude.

Moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, built 2 log cabins near Boulder Junction, and eventually his love of the north called him to Madeline Island and Bayfield.

Preceded in death by grandparents, father and mother, aunts and uncles, and cousin Scott Alan VAUGHN. Survived by brother Steven Erickson (Kristine) VAUGHN; cousins Frank (Sandra) VAUGHN III, Jeffrey (Julia) VAUGHN, Emily (Jason) VAUGHN, Melanie VAUGHN, Tewosret VAUGHN, Giana, Charlotte, and Max VAUGHN, and baby boy VAUGHN on the way; and special friend, Angela Bash.
