John R. McLAIN, 80, of Lockridge passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

John R. McLAIN, 80, of Lockridge passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018, at his home.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home with Rev. Dianne BROKKEN officiating. Memorials may be directed to the New Sweden United Methodist Church or to the Lockridge Fire and Rescue in his memory. According to his wishes cremation has been entrusted to Murphy Funeral Home.

John was born on April 17, 1937, at Canton, Illinois, the son of H. Dale & Dorothy R. (BUCKMAN) McLAIN. In his early years he decided to be a hobo and traveled the southwest. He was united in marriage to Patsy M. POHREN on June 20, 1959, in Fairfield. John worked for the Lockridge Times, and started his own print shop in 1958 from that he and his wife began upholstery and later was known as McLain Upholstery which they ran for more then (sic - than) 50 years.

He built 5 different cars and hand carved 55 different clocks for more then (sic) 40 years, which can be seen at the Johnny Clock Museum in Lockridge. He was a member of the New Sweden United Methodist Church, National Wood Carvers and served as Assistant Fire Chief for the Lockridge Fire Department for 25 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Patsy of Lockridge, his son, Chuka (Jen) McLAIN of Lockridge, his grandchildren; Brandy (Jesse) MEREDITH, Alisha (Travis) McELROY, Jacob McLAIN, Matthew McLAIN, Katie McLAIN and Samara McLAIN, and 2 great grandchildren; Aria McELROY and Henley McELROY, 5 sisters; Karen GEYSBEEK of Sebring, FL, Judith MAYER of Pennsylvania, Dianne (Leo) BROKKEN of Fairfield, Martha (Bob) HENDERSON of Stockport and Rebekah (Jim) SCHWARZ of Fairfield and one brother; Ronald McLAIN of Tucson, Arizona, many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, one son Jeff McLAIN and one brother David McLAIN.
