Caroline DICKEY was born in Sigourney, IA on April 19, 1921 to Harlan and Mary DAWSON MYERS. As a child her family moved to Fairfield, IA, where she graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Parson's (sic) College. On December 7, 1941 she was united in marriage to Harold DICKEY. In April of 1942, Harold was drafted and served his country until December of 1946. Most of the time Caroline was able to follow the many places where he was sent. Their first child was born in 1944. Together they were the proud parents of five children: Doug, David, Dan, Deb, and Megan. Caroline and the family eventually moved to Packwood where she continued to not only be a loving wife and mother, but an advocate for the community she called home. Caroline kept things organized at home and operated the Dickey's Prairie Home Restaurant for many years. Harold passed away in March of 1994. Caroline remained active. She was a longtime member of the Packwood First Christian Church, served on the Jefferson County Hospital Board, was active in the Republican Party, and was voted Outstanding Citizen in Fairfield. When she had some time to herself she enjoyed painting, sewing and being with her family.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Harold DICKEY (1994); one sister, Maurine REMINIH; and one daughter-in-law, Janet DICKEY and one brother-in-law, Max DICKEY.
Left to share her story are her children, Doug (Dorian ATWOOD) DICKEY of Fairfield, IA and his children Amy and Amber; David (Judy) DICKEY of Packwood, IA and their children, Adrian and Allison; Dan (Cindy) DICKEY of Packwood, IA and their children, Scott, Ashley, and Grant; Deb (Gary) BEMIS of Fairfield, IA, and their children, Chad, Hayley, and Tayler; and Megan (Mark) PERRINE of Ashland, WI and their children, Mika, Teal, Curi, and Nori; as well as twenty-six great grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.
