Marvin Leland SEPTER, age 77, of Fairfield, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017, at his home.
Visitation for family & friends will be 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, December 1, 2017, at Behner Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Fairfield Friends Church with Pastor Len Maselli officiating. Burial will be at Salem East Cemetery (note: in Henry Co., IA).
In-lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Fairfield Friends Church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes or Fairfield Kiwanis. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: Norene SEPTER, 1200 East Adams, Fairfield, IA 52556.
Marvin was born September 15, 1940 in Henry County, IA to John and Celestia (HOCKETT) SEPTER. He married Norene CRAIG July 8, 1962 in Salem, IA. This year they celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Marvin worked for the Fairfield Community School District for 35 years. While teaching he coached Jr. High football and track for over 27 years and held various school offices at local and state level. Marvin sponsored Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Teen Coe Republicans. He was past president of Fairfield Kiwanis. Marvin was a member of the Fairfield Friends Church and was an adult Sunday School teacher for many years and was presiding clerk. He loved to be outside. Some of his outside interest (sic) were hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, honey bees and gardening. Marvin did woodwoorking, refinishing furniture and made furniture for family. After he retired he and Norene enjoyed traveling. Marvin would follow pro football, Iowa Hawkeyes and Fairfield Trojans. He also enjoyed doing magic shows and writing poems.
Left to share Marvin's memories are his wife, Norene of Fairfield, IA; 3 sons, Gary (Kelly) SEPTER of Fairfield, IA, Mike (Elaine) SEPTER of Lenexa, KS and Steve SEPTER of Dubuque; and 3 grandchildren, Jenna (Garrison) PALMER, Paul SEPTER and Noah SEPTER. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Celestia; one sister, Lola WILLIAMSON; and one brother, Carl SEPTER.
