Wanda WONDERLICH

Wanda L. WONDERLICH, 84, of Ollie, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Wanda was born Sunday, January 1, 1933, the daughter of Henry and Bess VanderPLOEG BOEYINK. She married James "Jim" WONDERLICH on June 23, 1957, in a double ring ceremony with her sister Gertrude and Ralph YODER at the Hedrick United Methodist Church. Wanda graduated from Hedrick High School in 1951 and from Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls in 1955. She later earned her Master's degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri. Wanda started teaching in the Ottumwa School System in the fall of 1955 and with the exception of a few years after her daughters were born she taught in the district until her retirement in 1995. After retirement, she particularly enjoyed wintering in she and Jim's, Texas home. She actively participated in many activities in the park and enjoyed her many friends there. She also enjoyed driving the countryside on short trips, with Jim, taking in the scenery, especially the fall colors on the trees and spring's new life, particularly the new calves. Wanda was an avid sports fan and loved music, both playing the piano and singing.

Wanda is survived by her husband of over 60 years: Jim WONDERLICH of Ollie; two daughters: Lee (& Brian) LEPPERT of Wauconda, Illinois and Lynn (& David) WILKERSON of Adel, Iowa; five grandchildren: Amanda, Wade and Gable LEPPERT and Derek (& fiancée Jennifer) WILKERSON and T.J. (& fiancée Stephanie) WILKERSON; and one sister: Gertrude (& Ralph) YODER of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter in infancy: LeeAnn WONDERLICH.

Fineral services will be held Friday, October 27, 2017, at 6 P.M. in the Prairie View United Methodist Church with Pastor Nathanael Tabelisma officiating. As was her wish, Wanda's body will be cremated following the service. A visitation will begin Friday, October 27, 2017, after 2 P.M. in the Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie, with the family present at the church Friday from 3 until service time at 6 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the family and they will distribute them to the charity of their choice at a later date.
