Lyola Mary KASKA

Lyola Mary KASKA, 90, of Fairfield passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with Father Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield immediately following the service. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Cranston Family Funeral Home (Formerly Raymond Funeral Home) in Fairfield, with a prayer service beginning at 4:00 p.m. and the family present to greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Lyola's honor may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association: Greater Iowa Chapter. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Lyola was born on December 21, 1926 to August and Anna (STRIEGEL) PEIFFER in Keokuk County, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Sigourney and was educated at the rural Catholic schools. Lyola rode her blind horse named Billy five miles to school each day. Following her school education, she worked for families in the Sigourney area caring for their young children, cooking, baking, and cleaning homes. Lyola met Ardell KASKA at a dance in Keota, Iowa and they were united in marriage on April 20, 1949 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek, Iowa. Lyola and Ardell started their legacy together in Dublin, Iowa and moved to the "home place" in rural Fairfield in 1957. They farmed and raised 10 children together. Lyola was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She took pride in her family and enjoyed family gatherings; making many family favorites of homemade rolls, noodles, pies, apple dumplings, doughnuts and the list goes on and on.

Lyola was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Prairie Chapel Sunshine Girls, a neighborhood club.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ardell; her parents, August and Anna PEIFFER; brothers and sisters, Arthur PEIFFER, Cornelius PEIFFER, Agnes JAEGER, Ludgardis SCRIBNER, Theresa PEIFFER, Harold PEIFFER, Donald PEIFFER, Clarence "Hubert" PEIFFER, Phyllis SALM, and Dennis PEIFFER.

Lyola is survived by her 10 children, Robert (Christine) KASKA of Fairfield; William KASKA of Decorah; Donald (Jackie) KASKA of Fairfield; Mary (Michael) SKAGGS of Robins; Charles (Cathy) KASKA of Fairfield; Carol STONEBRAKER of Hollywood, Florida; Joan (Frederick) RUESS of Golden, Colorado; Susan (Dale) RUMER of Walford; Darlene (Chip Schultz) KASKA of Kansas City, Missouri; and James (Laura) KASKA of Fairfield; 20 grandchildren, Megan, Eve, Dennis, Shana, Ryan, Kelsey, Jason, Sarah, Brittany, Brooke, Melissa, Olivia, Brandon, Natalie, Kailey, Lindy, Darby, Nicholas, Peter and Nicole; 6 step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Marjorie BOWER and Marian EMMACK, and many nieces and nephews.
