Shirley Lois BAIRD was born August 28, 1937 in Fairfield, IA to Edgar Lealdes and Edith Harriett "CRENSHAW" PHILIPS. Shirley grew up in Fairfield where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1955. On November 18, 1956, she was united in marriage to Ivan Forrest BAIRD in Stockport, IA. The two began their journey as husband and wife living in Stockport and Fairfield. Together they became the proud parents of four children: Tony, Jodi, Jill, and Timothy. Shirley and Ivan later divorced. Shirley loved being a mother and worked hard to help support the family. Throughout her career she worked for SIEDA as a Director for Head Start, the Area Agency on Aging, and the Neighborhood Center. She also played an instrumental role in establishing many of the Senior Centers in a ten-county area. Her work was devoted to helping others but she still managed to find time to volunteer in the community and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. When she devoted some time to herself she enjoyed arranging flowers, watching ice skating, singing with the Sweet Adeline's (sic), and above all, spending time with her grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Dale PHILIPS, Eva HOOTMAN, Doyle PHILIPS, Erma JOHNSTON, Donald PHILIPS, and Maynard PHILIPS.

Left to share her story are her four children, Tony BAIRD of Twin Falls, ID, Jodi (Randolph) HELLWEG of Fairfield, IA, Jill (Larry) SHEFFLER of Ames, IA, , (sic) and Timothy (Twilla) BAIRD of Ottumwa, IA; eight grandchildren, Loran (Matthew) STUTENBERG, Teree (Jonathan) HUNGERFORD, Mitchell SHEFFLER, Madison (Michael) SHEFFLER-PEDERSEN, Samuel BAIRD, Michael BAIRD, Danielle BAIRD, and Andrew BAIRD; one great grandson, Dominik STUTENBERG as well as two on the way; two sisters, Treva GREINER and Meda BURKE-KOPSEIKER, as well as many extended family and friends.
