'Dorthy' Jo SWANSON, 83, of Ollie, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
As was her wish, the body has been cremated. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. A private family burial will be at a later date in McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday at Prairie View United Methodist Church, with family present 5-7 p.m.
Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Keokuk County Hospice or Prairie View United Methodist Church Missions: Heifer International.

'Dorthy' Jo SWANSON, 83 of Ollie, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

Visitation began this afternoon at Prairie View United Methodist Church, where the family will be present 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. SWANSON was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Bloomfield, to Carl and Helen BEGGS AESCHLIMAN. She married Richard SWANSON June 6, 1953, at Agency United Methodist Church in Agency.
She graduated from Eldon High School in 1952. She attended A.I.B. in Des Moines.
She spent most of her life as a farm wife. She also worked at Gentry Insurance in Ollie and as the secretary at Prairie View United Methodist Church. She was very involved in United Methodist Women and held several offices at the local and district levels.
She was a volunteer for Keokuk County Hospice for over 30 years, taught Sunday school and served as a 4-H leader for many years.
Her pastimes included quilting and exhibiting many of her works at the county fair. She also enjoyed reading. She gave selflessly to underprivileged women and children. She rarely missed an opportunity to watch her grandchildren perform or compete. Her true passion was her love for her family.
Survivors include: her husband Richard SWANSON of Ollie; daughter Sandy (John) STEVENS of McGregor; sons Steve (Luann) SWANSON and Scott (Julie) SWANSON, both of Ollie, and Roger (Ann) SWANSON of Hedrick; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters Marguarette WILBURN and El Dinah STOCKHAM, both of Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; and sister Nannette McBRIDE.
