Roy "Wayne" MITCHELL, 71, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Jefferson County Health Center.

Behner Funeral Home is helping the family with arrangements.

Roy 'Wayne' MITCHELL

Roy "Wayne" MITCHELL, 71, of Packwood, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Jefferson County Health Center.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Packwood, with the Rev. Frosty VanVoorst officiating. Burial will be at Packwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to 4-H. Cards and memorials can be mailed to Mitchell Family, 1124 Driftwood Ave., Packwood 52580. Online condolences can be made at www.behnerfh.com.

Behner Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. MITCHELL was born May 4, 1945, to Willis Lee and Iva Bell HILL MITCHELL. He married Gwenith Renae KELLS June 29, 1974.

Mr. MITCHELL was a lifelong farmer in the Packwood community. He was a member of the Lions Club, Elks Lodge and Jefferson County Cattleman's Association. He helped with the 4-H youth committee and was on the Jefferson County ISU Extension Council.

He enjoyed showing cattle at the Iowa State Fair and county fairs. He was a volunteer for the Packwood Fire Department for over 30 years.

He liked vintage International Harvest (sic) tractors and followed Iowa Hawkeye football. Spending time with family, friends and being on the farm tending to his angus cowherd were important to him.

Survivors include: his wife, Gwenith MITCHELL of Packwood; children, Ryan (Heather) MITCHELL of Pella, Grant (Katie) MITCHELL of Ollie, and Renae (Patrick) SIKORA of Waverly; seven grandchildren; his mother, Iva Bell MITCHELL of Fairfield; brother, Gordon MITCHELL of Peoria, Arizona; and sister, Wynona ADAMS of Salisbury, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Willis MITCHELL.
