John Milton HIXSON, 93, of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Parkview in Wellman (note: in Washington Co., IA).
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth (also in Washington Co., IA).
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family present 5-7 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Iowa City of Hospice Compassus.
Mr. HIXSON was born May 11, 1923, in Richland to Ralph and Ruth SINGLETON HIXSON. He married Betty MILLER Nov. 17, 1947, in Columbus Junction.
Mr. HIXSON graduated from Richland High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He farmed his entire life in the Washington/Louisa County area.
He was a past member of the National Farmers Organization, and he enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include: his wife Betty of Columbus Junction; daughter, Connie MEYER of Naperville, Illinois; son, Larry (Kathy) HIXSON of Brighton; brothers, Leonard HIXSON of Iowa City and Dean HIXSON of New Martinsville, West Virginia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Melvine NELSON, Genevieve McKEE and an infant.
