David Owen MITCHELTREE

David Owen MITCHELTREE, 69, of Keosauqua died at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Joseph Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA), with military honors by Beer-Barker Post No. 113 American Legion, Keosauqua.

Visitation opens at 3 p.m. Friday, with family present 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials to Van Buren County Hospital's physical therapy or cardiac rehab departments or Serve Outdoors can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 704 Franklin St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. MITCHELTREE was born Feb. 23, 1947, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, son of William and Elsie PANTALL MITCHELTREE. He married Linda Jean YOUNG July 6, 1974, in Fairfield.

He graduated in 1965 from West Middlesex High School in Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, including two years in Tahkli, Thailand. Upon his return to the states, he attended Penn State Univesity and graduated in 1973 from Parsons College in Fairfield.

He worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services in Van Buren County for 17 years as an income maintenance worker. He resigning to work in various positions at Douds Elementary School, where he retired as a third-grade teacher in 2009 (sic).

Mr. MITCHELTREE was an avid outdoorsman. His pastimes included bow hunting, searching for American Indian artifacts, collecting antiques, attending auctions, teaching, and traveling with his family.

He was a member of Serve Outdoors, First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield, and Keosauqua Library Board. He also served as president of Van Buren Sports Boosters and was active in Van Buren Players.

Survivors include: his wife; daughter, Jessica EHRENFELT of Richland; brothers, Gary MITCHELTREE of Florence, South Carolina, Jim MITCHELTREE of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Ron MITCHELTREE of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; and sister, Carol EDMUNDSON of Erie, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
