James Merlin NELSON, 46, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is helping the family with arrangements.

Body identified as Fairfield man

WEVER - The Department of Criminal Investigation has confirmed that a body found Saturday morning in Lee County is that of James M. NELSON, 47, formerly of Fairfield.

A Lee County Sheriff's deputy was called at 10:58 a.m. that day to Indian Path Park near Wever after callers had reported a person who was either dead or in need of assistance. The deputy responded and found NELSON's body in the park. The DCI is conducting a joint investigation with the Lee County Sheriff's Office into the death.

Autopsy results are pending from the University of Iowa's Decedent Care Unit.

James Merlin NELSON, 47, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.

A celebration of life will be 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Fairfield VFW.

A memorial has been established. Cards and memorials can be sent to David SUMMERS, 21626 116th St., Birmingham 52535. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com.

Mr. NELSON was born Dec. 5, 1969, in Des Moines to Merlin and Joe Frances AYILA NELSON.

Mr. NELSON worked in construction.

His pastimes included riding motorcycles, spending time with his friends and family and colecting Harley Davidson (sic - Harley-Davidson) memorabilia. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Survivors include: his parents of Des Moines; brother, David SUMMERS of Birmingham; sisters, Genia OLLOM of Fairfield, Sonia DETERS of Fairfield, Laura NELSON SCOTT of Des Moines, and Sue COSPER of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by: one brother, Victor NELSON.
