Ruth CARTER, 88, of rural Douds, died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Ruth CARTER

Ruth CARTER, 88, of rural Douds, died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Douds (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation, with family present, will be 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Mount Moriah Cemetery or Van Buren High School Sports Boosters can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 11924 Gray Ave., Douds 52551.

Mrs. CARTER was born Feb. 16, 1928, in rural Birmingham, the daughter of Earl M. and Hazel B. CARL FILSON. She married Fred W. CARTER Aug. 11, 1951, at Eldon Methodist Church.

Mrs. CARTER grew up in the rural Birmingham area and graduated from Birmingham High School in 1946.

She and her husband started their married lives living and farming 2 miles west of Bladensburg. Then they moved to their farm north of Douds.

She was a farm homemaker, but was always by her husband's side working in the field, building fence, digging graves or mowing at Mount Moriah Cemetery.

She enjoyed attending Van Buren High School basketball games, cooking Sunday dinner, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include: her husband, Fred; one son, Ron CARTER and wife Cathy of Douds; one daughter, Debra LOFTUS and husband Dan of Douds; two brothers, Raymond FILSON and Van FILSON, both of Birmingham; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; and one son, Danny CARTER.
