Roy Wesley GOETTSCHE, 78, of Fairfield, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at his home.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Richland Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harlan "Frosty" VanVoorst and the Rev. Tim Schoepf officiating. The body will be cremated following the service. Private burial of cremains will be at a later date.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home.
In-lieu of flowers, memorials will be to Serve Outdoors. Cards and memorials can be left at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com.
Mr. GOETTSCHE was born March 27, 1938, in Davenport, the son of Konrad and Melinda MANGELS GOETTSCHE. He married M. Karen THYS Sept. 27, 1957. She died April 11, 1971. He married Esther Fay PREVETT HUTTON June 7, 1980.
Mr. GOETTSCHE worked for 35 years at Iowa Malleable and 10 years at The Dexter Company before he retired. In his retirement, he enjoyed his weekly coffee club.
He was a member of the Elks and was on a bowling league for many years. He enjoyed doing woodworking, shotgun and bow hunting, and restoring antique tractors. Some of his favorite times were relaxing on the river and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife, Esther GOETTSCHE of Fairfield; children Daniel GOETTSCHE of Fairfield, Andrea CROW and husband David of Winfield, Missouri, Doris Kay HUTTON of Indianola, Andrea HAGIST and husband Mark of Ottumwa, and Marcy MURPHY and husband Michael of Brighton; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Leonard GOETTSCHE of Mt. Pleasant; and one sister, Lois MEREDITH of Columbia, Missouri.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; his stepmother, Faye GOETTSCHE; one daughter, LuAnn GOETTSCHE; one grandson; two brothers, Charles GOETTSCHE and infant Konrad GOETTSCHE; and one sister, Caroline ARCHER.
