Wilma PEARSON

Wilma PEARSON, 92, passed away October 3, 2016. Joint memorial services for Wilma and Norman PEARSON will be held at the Pleasant Plain Friends Church, Pleasant Plain, Iowa on October 22 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation a half hour before. Norman passed away on January 21, 2013.

Wilma was born August 11, 1924 to Etha (CRAIL) and Albert JONES of Pleasant Plain. She met Norman PEARSON at William Penn College, and they were married at the Pleasant Plain Friends Church on February 11, 1945 by a woman minister. They had been married almost 68 years at the time of Norman's death.

In addition to their two children, Phyllis and Richard, Wilma's father, Albert, was a member of their family before his death, and then, after his death, Wilma's sister, Waneta JONES, an invalid with severe cerebral palsy joined their family for more than 20 years until her death in 2006.

In 1990, Norm and Wilma left Iowa, with Wilma's sister Waneta and two cats, to volunteer at the Friends Center, a day school for Choctaw Indians near Mobile, Alabama and then at a Southern Baptist church camp for people with cerebral palsy in Citronelle, Alabama. They moved back to Fremont, Nebraska when Norm turned 80.

After Norman died, Wilma moved to West Des Moines to be near her daughter Phyllis. At the time of her death she was a member of Valley United Methodist Church in West Des Moines.

She is survived by her children, Phillis PEARSON (Dan BOHNER), West Des Moines; and Richard PEARSON (Priscilla WILSON), Fremont, Nebraska; grandchildren: Rachel (Tak) YAMAMOTO and Daniel (Ferial) PEARSON; great-grandchildren: Ellis YAMAMOTO, June YAMAMOTO, Ilahi PEARSON and Iman PEARSON. She also had step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman PEARSON, and her sister, Waneta JONES.

Memorials may be made to the Valley United Methodist Church, West Des Moines, or Pleasant Plain Friends Church, Pleasant Plain, Iowa.
