Duane L. GOFF

Duane Lee GOFF, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at his residence (note: in Henry Co., IA).

A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Wayne K. Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.

Friends can call through 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 4-7 p.m.

Memorials can be made to Boy Scouts of America, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children. Online condolences can left (sic) at www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.

Mr. GOFF was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Ottumwa, the son of Leonard Ray and Alta Merle McCOY GOFF. He married Judith Raye McCONNELL March 21, 1965, at Batavia Methodist Church.

He was raised in Batavia and graduated from Batavia High School in 1956. He graduated from the Broadlawns/Polk Co. Hospital School of Nursing in 1961.

He entered the United States Army in January 1962 at Fort Des Moines. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in January 1964 at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Mr. GOFF graduated in 1967 from Minneapolis School of Anesthesia for Nurses. He was an anesthetist at various locations, including Princeton, Illinois, for 1.5 years and Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant for 14 years. He then supplied various hospitals for anesthetist services on a private basis.

To begin retirement, he worked at the switchboard of both the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and the Ottumwa Regional Medical Center in Ottumwa, until he fully retired.

Mr. GOFF was a member of the Princeton Christian Church and Mt. Pleasant Lodge No. 8 AF & AM. He volunteered an untold number of hours in several capacities at Midwest Old Threshers.

Mr. GOFF was an organist and pianist and played at several churches, including longtime service to the Congregational Church of Mt. Pleasant and First Baptist Church of Ottumwa.

Survivors include: his wife Judy of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, David GOFF and wife Amy of Bridgeman, Michigan, and Darrell GOFF and wife Brenda of Muscatine; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by: his parents.
