Louisa MAGEE

Mary Louise MAGEE ("Louisa" - November 24th, 1944 - September 8th, 2016) died peacefully at home in Fairfield, Iowa after a six-year battle with breast cancer.

Born in Worchester, Massachusetts, she was a woman of many talents and interests. Graduating from the Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School of Orange, MA and Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, she later obtained master's degrees in both Sociology and Speech and Hearing Pathology.

Louisa worked with the speech and hearing disabled including many years for the hearing-aid company, Beltone. She also started her own company in Fairfield, Iowa, designing and making custom draperies.

Her favorite part of living in Fairfield was the proximity to MIU. Louisa meditated almost all of her adult life and was very dedicated to personal and societal improvement through the Transcendental Meditation program from which she took many advanced courses. She made many friends in Fairfield, and was an exceptional living example of the benefits of TM. She will be dearly missed.

Louisa was a deeply spiritual woman and her Catholic faith sustained and nourished her. She was foremost a lover of people and took great pride in her son, Michael. Being a mother was her greatest joy! This motherly love was also manifested in her devotion to her nieces and nephews!

Louisa was preceded in death by her sister Dr. Margaret MAGEE, brother John MAGEE III and her parents Dr. John and Dr. Margaret (McMANAMY) MAGEE. She is survived by her beloved son Michael J.L. MAGEE, sisters Clare ROOS (Donald), Northfield, MN, Rosemary MAGEE, South Royalston MA, Elizabeth MAGEE (Don BROWN), Falls Church, VA, and brother Michael James MAGEE (Connie PIKE), Orange, MA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty MAGEE, Windsor, CT, nieces and nephews Shannon Clare ROOS WOOD (Jonathan WOOD), Daniel A. ROOS, Cindy MAGEE, Theresa McKNIGHT (Eben), Dr. John MAGEE IV (Trisha), Clare BROWN (Jeremiah GALAY), Dr. Elizabeth BROWN (Ramesh PILLAY), Margaret HANNAH (Daniel), Maria GATAUTIS, and Michael GATAUTIS, as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A memorial mass for Louisa will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 3100 W. Madison Avenue in Fairfield, Iowa at 2 PM on Saturday, September 17th, 2016.

A very special thank you is given to Carol Tavaris for her dedicated care of Louisa during six weeks of assistance from Washington County Hospice, as well as to Dr. Chirantan Ghosh at the Ghosh Oncology Clinic of Cedar Rapids, IA for his compassionate care over the past 6 years. Thanks is also given to Jennifer Hamilton, Sheila Moschen, and all that stepped forward when the need was greatest.

In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the local food shelf, Hospice of Washington County, Roman Catholic Charities, or a charity of your choice.
