Robert J. KRAUSE

Robert J. KRAUSE, a resident of Park View Nursing Home in Fairfield and formerly of Fenton, died surrounded by family at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral was Friday morning at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton (note: in Kossuth Co., IA). Burial was at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Fenton.

Gifts in lieu of flowers can be sent to the Ranney - Weisbrod American Legion Post 627 in Fenton.

Mr. KRAUSE was born June 7, 1922 in Fenton, the son of Arthur J. and Mabel DREYER KRAUSE. He married Rachel WEISBROD Jan. 16, 1949. She died in 2014.

Mr. KRAUSE graduated from Fenton High School in 1939. Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, he briefly attended Iowa State University and managed the lumber yard in Armstrong. He joined the Marines in the autumn of 1942. He was a radioman in an anti-aircraft battalion the 2nd Marine Division. His tour of duty culminated in his participation in the battle of Tinian in the Pacific theater during World War II.

Immediately after the war, he returned to farm the family farm in Independence Township, Palo Alto County, until his retirement during the Farm Crisis in 1982. He raised corn and beans as well as a variety of animals to include pure-bred Yorkshire pigs, cattle and various wild fowl.

He was active in several organizations including the American Legion for 71 years, the Democratic Party and St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton. He also had serviced as a member of the Sentral community schools school board, the Lott's Creek Drainage Ditch Board, and as a rrustee (sic) of Independence Township for many years.

Survivors include: four children, Robert A. KRAUSE and wife Vicky MATTHIESSEN-KRAUSE of Fairfield, Anne SWIFT and husband Don of Yankton, South Dakota, Alice SPICER and husband Rex of Solon, and John KRAUSE and wife Kelly of San Diego; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Irene KRAUSE ALT ZUMACH; one brother, Herbert KRAUSE, one stepbrother, Hans KRAUSE; one grandson; and one daughter-in-law, Maryanne MILLS-KRAUSE.
