Dewey "Blake" PHELPS, 87, of Fairfield, died today, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Dewey 'Blake' PHELPS

Dewey "Blake" PHELPS Jr., 87, of Fairfield, died thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City surrounded by family.

In accordance with his wishes, the body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Joseph Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery north of Bonaparte (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation, with family present, will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials to Vale Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 16813 165th St. South, Stockport 52651.

Mr. PHELPS was born March 29, 1928, in the farmhouse of his parents, Dewey and Nina CONARD PHELPS. He married Treva RIDGEWAY in August 1945. He married Sherrill NELSON PARKINSON in December 1976.

Mr. PHELPS graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1945.

He farmed with his father from 1945 through 1965. He later moved to Atlantic, Iowa, working for Farm Bureau Insurance as a division manager of 17 counties. He moved back to Fairfield in 1975 opening an office with Heinhold Commodities out of Chicago, retiring in 2002.

In addition to his wife, Sherrill of Fairfield, he is survived by three daughters, Jean KOODA of Richardson, Texas, Jodie PETERS of Edmund, Oklahoma, and Jackie DEUTSH of Milton; one son, Wayne PHELPS and wife Janet of Stockport, six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrel Jean VALLERY of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; one stepdaughter, Lori STRIEGAL and husband Eric of Swisher; and one stepson, Jeff PARKINSON and wife Theresa of Swisher; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Donald Edgar PHELPS.
