Thomas Holmes 'Whitey' WHITE

Thomas Holmes "Whitey" WHITE, 70, of Erie, Colorado, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, from complications with pulmonary fibrosis, in Lafayette, Colorado.

Mr. WHITE was a math teacher and coached football, wrestling and golf at Fairfield High School for 31 years. He continued his teaching career in the math program at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.

Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services in Longmont, Colorado. Memorial services will be held in Iowa at a later date.

Thomas Holmes 'Whitey' WHITE

Thomas Holmes "Whitey" WHITE, 70, of Erie, Colorado passed away with his family by his side on October 22, 2015 from complications with pulmonary fibrosis in Lafayette, Colorado. He was born in Washington, Iowa to Vernon and Florence (HOLMES) WHITE. He was raised in Crawfordsville, Iowa where his parents owned White's General Store. Following his graduation from Ainsworth High School he went on to attend and graduate from Simpson College, where he also played college football and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Tom achieved a master's degree in mathematics from Drake University. Tom married his beloved wife, Connie Lynn KANE, in Fairfield, Iowa on June 24, 1983.

Tom was a Math teacher and coached football, wrestling and golf at Fairfield High School for 31 years. He continued his teaching career in the Math program at Indian Hills Community College and Iowa Wesleyan College. He leaves a legacy of generations of students and athletes he coached and mentored through the years. He was dedicated to the development and success of people as both a coach and a teacher. Everyone remembers him for making Geometry fun and helped so many thrive in the complicated world of Math. If you met Whitey you remembered him for his quick wit, humor, and genuine kindness. Tom retired from teaching in 2014. He and his wife moved to Colorado in June of that same year.

Whitey was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge, served on the board of his golf club in Keosauqua, Iowa, and enjoyed a good game of golf. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and cherished every moment he had with them. He will be greatly missed by each and every one of them as they all adored him and were just as proud to have him as their Papa.

Survivors include his wife Connie of Erie, CO, his sons Todd (Kim) WHITE of Conroe, TX and Jeremy NICOLA of Castle Rock, CO; his daughters Robin (Willis) ODOM of Peyton, CO and Heather (Doug) SQUIRE of Niwot, CO. He is further survived by nine grandchildren: Josh, Jade, Lauren, Eireanna, McAhan, Madison, Lyla, Coulter and Keira and his brother Rich WHITE of Boulder, CO.

A memorial fund is being set up for the fairfield Athletic program. Donations can be made to "Trojan Athletic Boosters" with Coach Tom White Memorial in the memo line, and mailed to Fairfield Trojan Athletic Boosters, P.O. Box 2493, Fairfield, IA 52556.

Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services. No local services will be held.

Memorial services will be held in Iowa at a later date.
