Harley J. LEWISTON, 87, of Fairfield, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center.

A memorial service is pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Harley Jr. LEWISTON

Harley Jr. LEWISTON, 87, of Fairfield died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church. A luncheon and gathering will follow the service at the church.

A private family interment will be at a later date in Randall Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Jefferson County Conservation Board or Elim Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mr. LEWISTON was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Madrid, Iowa, the son of Harley and Irma OLSON LEWISTON. He married Marjorie Orva SYDNES July 11, 1949, in the Little Brown Church at Nashua.

He was raised in Sheldahl, then lived in Randall since 1952, before moving to Fairfield in 2012.

Mr. LEWISTON received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology in 1945 from Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls. He received his master's degree in biology in 1966 from Washington State University at Pullman, Washington.

He was a high school biology teacher and coach for 39 years. He taught one year at Dumont and then at Randall and South Hamilton Consolidated School District in Jewell, retiring in 1989.

Mr. LEWISTON was a member of Lions Club, Retired Teachers Association, and Elim Lutheran Church, where he served on several church committees. He was a charter member of the golf club in Jewell.

He served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan in 1947.

Mr. LEWISTON was a city councilman and served as mayor of Randall and served on the Randall Fire Department. He served as director and campground superintendent at Riverside Bible Camp at Story City.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and was an amateur inventor and naturalist.

Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie; one son, Dennis LEWISTON and wife Dena of Fairfield; two daughters, Connie STEWART of Olathe, Kansas, and Susan Ellen KINDELL and husband Andrew of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
