Merle F. Paxson
August 05, 2004Merle F. Paxson, age 90, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at the Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.
Born September 1, 1913, east of Packwood, he was the son of Fred W. and Nora Dell Sutton Paxson.
He graduated from Packwood High School in 1931.
Merle married Ferne Irene Buchanan on February 14, 1935, at the Methodist chapel in Fairfield. She died on April 13, 1980.
He married Virginia L. Brown Carris on May 17, 1982, in Cedar Rapids. She died on October 31, 1989.
Merle farmed east of Packwood until moving to Fairfield in 1953. He worked as deputy assessor for Jefferson County. He worked as clerk for the Iowa Highway Patrol Post #13 from 1959 until his retirement in 1978.
He lived in Packwood from 1982 until moving to Richland in 1989. He was a member of the Packwood Christian Church and had been a member of the Packwood Development board, and had been a member of the Lions clubs in Mount Pleasant, Fairfield, Packwood and Richland.
Surviving are his daughter Phyllis Robison and husband Leroy of Richland; 2 grandchildren, Doug (Melissa) Robison of Richland and Lori (Jack) Welch of East Moline, Illinois; 4 great-grandchildren, Derek Robison, Hannah Robison, Cody Welch and Justin Welch; a stepson, Keith (Fonda) Carris of Swisher, Iowa; 2 stepdaughters, Diana Koontz (Ron) of Johnston, Iowa and Linda Boswell; plus 7 stepgrandchildren; and 3 stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Packwood Christian Church with Pastor Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in the Packwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at the Packwood Christian Church.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
