Leon Charles DeMAYER, 83, formerly of Birmingham, died today, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Village Hospice in Lee Summitt (sic), Missouri.

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is helping the family with arrangements.

Leon Charles DeMEYER

Leon Charles DeMEYER, 83, formerly of Birmingham, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Village House, John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Military rites will follow the service. Per his request, the body has been cremated, and burial of cremains will be at a later date.

No visitation will be held.

Mr. DeMEYER was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Hartwick, the son of Jerome and Flavia Ann Marie BOUDONCK DeMEYER. He married Ella Jean YANDA April 19, 1954, at St. Patrick's in Tama. She died Jan. 20, 2002.

Mr. DeMEYER served in the Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict). He was an auto body man working at various businesses. He raced stock cars for many years and was a NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed country music, flower gardening, painting and playing pool.

Survivors include: six children, Victoria LEDGER and husband Steve of Richland, Debra WOLFER and husband Denny of Albia, Paula MARR and husband Mike of Strafford, Misosuri, Christopher DeMEYER and wife Susan of Lee's Summit, Missouri, James DeMEYER and wife Theresa of Mt. Pleasant and Matthew DeMEYER and wife Crystal of Springfield, Missouri; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice VAN QUENKELBURG and Janice BRINGMAN, both of Victor; and one brother, Robert DeMEYER of Hartwick.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; and two grandchildren.
