Larry "L.J." Remington, 61, of Brighton died at 7:47 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.

A private funeral service for the family will be held at a later date.

The family will greet friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Brighton Volunteer First Responders may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 208 N. Mechanic St., Brighton 52540.

Mr. Remington was born March 19, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Glendon L. and Leona K. Kula Remington. He married Rita Mull in 1965. They later divorced. He married Pat Babber l June 2, 1973, in Russell.

He attended schools in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area. He worked at Crane Valves in Washington, Iowa, for 30 years and had to take a disability retirement in April 2003.

Mr. Remington was a member of ABATE District 14.

Survivors include his wife Pat Remington; three daughters, Angela Garmoe and husband Anthony of Mount Pleasant, Brandy Remington of Des Moines and Lori Schlee and husband Rod of Anamosa; two sons, Travis Remington and wife Margaret of Wayland and Darren Remington and wife Jori of Boca Raton, Fla.; eight grandsons; one sister, Glenda Erickson of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Carroll Dean Remington of Cedar Rapids, Glendon Remington of Marion and Jerald Remington of Blue Eye, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
