Shirley Jane MAXWELL

Shirley Jane MAXWELL, 74, of West Burlington, died 3:20 p.m. November 14, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born on October 27, 1940 in rural Van Buren County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred and Marie (HELM) WESTERCAMP. She married Richard MAXWELL on November 5, 1961 in Stockport, Iowa.

She was a 1958 graduate of Stockport High School and a graduate of Burlington Junior College School of Nursing.

Mrs. MAXWELL was a Registered Nurse at Burlington Medical Center for 32 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Jane Delano Retired Nurses Association and Peace Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council and with the Women's Circle.

She volunteered to assist with special needs children in the Burlington School District for five years and with Great River Hospice for seven years. She loved her cats, enjoyed gardening, quilting and time spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband Richard "Dick" MAXWELL of West Burlington; one daughter, Yvonne (Kraig) ZLOMKE of West Burlington; one son, Steven (Wendy) MAXWELL of Burlington; five grandchildren; two sisters, Tessie LANE of Mt. Pleasant and Minnette (Bud) GIBERSON of Stockport; one brother, Daniel (Jan) WESTERCAMP of Davenport; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ralph WESTERCAMP and one sister Honor LOY.

The funeral service for Mrs. MAXWELL will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18th at Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor Kathleen Wohlers will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery, rural West Burlington (note: in Des Moines Co., IA). A luncheon will be held at the church following the funeral service.

Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 17th in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Memorials have been established for Peace Lutheran Church or the Des Moines County Humane Society.
