"PERLEE PIONEER PASSES AWAY. Lafayette Coop, born Apr. 15, 1842, died at 8 o'clock p.m. Jan. 23, 1920. He was one of a family of 11 children, five boys and six girls, but two of whom survive him, Mrs. Christiana Gilbert and Mrs. Clarinda Henderson. Mr. Coop grew to manhood in the pioneer days of Jefferson County, and developed those steady, unassuming qualities which look to the essential things of life. . . . .He was one of the founders and builders of Antioch church and was a member at the time of his death. But a few months before his death, he gave to the church a strip of land to prevent it from being crowded in case his farm should at any time fall into hands unfriendly to the church. Married Cynthia Jane Spencer. . . . .seven children. . . . .Nellie Eveline died in infancy. . . . .Mr. Coop was born and died on the same farm where he had always lived except four years in Washington and three years in Fairfield. . . . .Funeral services at the home and at Antioch church. . . . . .Interment in the church yard cemetery."
