Friday, February 20, 1914HARVEY THOMPSON DIED OF APOPLEXY. Although Coroner C. D. Tallman made the trip to Collett on Saturday to ascertain the cause of the death of Harvey THOMPSON, no inquest was held. Dr. Tallman found that death was due to apoplexy. Funeral was held Monday afternoon from the home of his daughter, Mrs. William GALLUP nearby.
About 8:00 o’clock Saturday morning Levi Rittenhouse found Mr. Thompson dead in the cottage in which he lived alone. Mr. Rittenhouse had driven a load onto the scales and investigated when Mr. THOMPSON failed to appear….. There were no suspicious circumstances, but on account of the fact that he lived alone it was thought advisable to notify the coroner.
Harvey THOMPSON was born in Ohio June 12, 1845 (sic - 1846 on his gravestone), and came with his parents to Iowa when four years of age. He has since lived within a mile of his late home. When sixteen years old he enlisted at Birmingham in Co. C, Eight Iowa Cavalry. He was married February 17, 1866, to Hattie RODABAUGH, who died about four years ago. The following children survive Mr. THOMPSON: Mrs. Ida PETERSON of Denver; Mrs. W. K. GALLOP (sic - GALLUP) of Libertyville; Will THOMPSON of Ottumwa; Mrs. Lilly BONNETT of Brighton; Otis Thompson of near Collett and Mrs. Elmer DAVIS of Abingdon.
