MRS. S. N. CARL DIES IN CITY AFTER WRECK
Libertyville Woman Called Early This Morning At Hospital

Mrs. S. N. CARL, a resident of Libertyville, died at 3:05 a.m. today, at the Jefferson County Hospital following injuries she received in an accident involving two cars and a wagon, north of Fairfield in February.

Mrs. CARL was injured in an automobile and wagon accident which happened two miles north of Fairfield on Friday, February 23, when she wasriding (sic) with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis HESTON of Libertyville. Mrs. CARL was removed to the Jefferson County Hospital immediately following the accident. It was reported at the time of the accident that she suffered internal injuries, several wounds on her head and an injured limb. Her condition had been considered as serious for some time at the hospital here.

Mrs. CARL is survived by three children, Mrs. HESTON who was in the accident with her, Herschel CARL and Mrs. Mark BAKER of Fairfield. She also leaves a brother and a sister, Sam SIMMONS, northeast of Fairfield, and Mrs. Christie ROBINSON of Fairfield.

Mr. CARL preceded her in death on March 28, 1917, the anniversary of his wife's birthday when he was fatally injured in an automobile-train accident in Fairfield. He owned the first car in Jefferson county. Mrs. CARL was born on March 28 and lived to be 70 years, 11 months and 22 days old.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at the First Lutheran church in Fairfield at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Dr. W. F. Rex. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will remain at the Campbell Funeral Home until the time of the service.

BAKER STARTS JAIL SENTENCE
Serving 15 Days on Charge Of Driving Unlighted Wagon

Nick Baker, farmer living seven miles northwest of Fairfield today started to serve 15 days in the Jefferson county jail, his punishment for driving an unlighted wagon on Highway No. 1. It was Baker's wagon that was struck by the car of Louis HESTON, Libertyville mail carrier, on the night of Friday, February 23, two miles north of town.

A passenter of the HESTON car, Mrs. S. N. CARL, died here Tuesday morning as the result of complications that followed her injury in the wreck. Mr. HESTON is in the hospital with a cast on his neck waiting for a broken vertebrae to mend.

Shortly after the accident, Baker pleaded guilty to having no lights on his wagon when arraigned in the court of Justice of the Peace Clyde C. Bell. He was fined $50, which he said he could pay in a few days.

Yesterday evening, when the fine was still unpaid, Deputy Sheriff Herb Goodale was sent after Baker, and brought him in to jail.

CARL, Deceased, in now (sic) on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson county, and that Thursday, April 5, A. D. 1934 at 9:30 o'clock A. M. has been set for proof and final hearing of same.

OBITUARY

Mrs. S. N. CARL

Sierra Nevada SIMMONS daughter of Rufus and Elizabeth COOP SIMMONS was born March 28, 1863 near Fairfield Iowa, and died March 6, 1934, at Jefferson county hospital where she had been critically ill for 11 days. She was 70 years, 11 months and 6 days old.

She was united in marriage Jan. 22, 1889, with Chester C. CARL who preceded her in death March 28, 1917 when he was instantly killed in a train automobile accident.

To them were born five children, Katherine Elizabeth who died in infancy, Bert who passed away Aug. 17 (sic - 27), 1918, Mrs. Ercel BAKER and Herschel CARL of Fairfield, Ia. and Mrs. Birdie HESTON who resides in Libertyville, Ia. She also leaves seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a large number of friends who will greatly mourn her death.

She was one of a family of eight children, three brothers and two sisters having preceded her in death. One brother Samuel C. SIMMONS who lives northeast of Fairfield and a sister, Mrs. Christie ROBINSON (sic - ROBISON) of Fairfield remain.

Her entire life was spent in and near Fairfield, Ia., where she made many dear friends. Following a stroke several years ago from which she never fully recovered she made her home with her daughter Mrs. HESTON in Libertyville where she was lovingly and tenderly cared for. She united with the English Lutheran Church at Fairfield, Ia., more than 50 years ago and was a faithful consistent member. During her life time she experienced much sickness, and tragedy but through it all, her faith and courage never failed and she would often say that her hope and trust were placed in the Heavenly Father who's will for her was best (sic).

The funeral services were held, March 8, 1934, at the English Lutheran church in Fairfield. Dr. W. F. Rex who gave the funeral address, spoke on "Holy Living and Holy Dying."

The pall bearers were, Cliff SIMMONS, Russell SIMMONS, Jay SIMMONS, Paul SIMMONS, Fred SIMMONS and Burce Picken. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.
