Richard W. "Dick" Allen, 77, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

A private family graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun, with the Rev. Edward Peterson officiating. The body has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Henry County Health Center Dialysis Unit and the American Diabetes Association. Memorials can be left at or mailed to the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 Maple Leaf Drive, PO Box 656, Mount Pleasant 52641.

Mr. Allen was born March 28, 1927, in Wayland, the son of Wayne and Mabel Rich Allen. He married Ella Jayne Nott Aug. 22, 1946, in Morning Sun.

After graduating from high school in Morning Sun, he served in the United States Navy. He then earned a bachelor's degree in business from Parsons College.

After their marriage, the Allens lived in Fairfield, Sedalia, Mo., and Seward, Neb. They moved to Mount Pleasant in 1990.

Mr. Allen was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 28 years. He retired in 1985 as the zone manager for the company.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jeffrey Allen and wife Margaret of Denver, Iowa; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Shirley Harfst of Stockton, Calif.; two half-sisters, Barbara Allen and Judy Allen, both of Dade City, Fla.; and one half-brother, Lynn Allen of Dade City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one half-brother, John Allen; and his step-mother, Vivian Allen.
