Rites Monday for BLAKLEY

G. Lee BLAKLEY, 74, of Barnes City, died Thursday at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.

He was born in Onieda, Tenn., on Oct. 8, 1913, the son of Jesse and Emmeline BOTTS BLAKLEY. He lived in Tennessee in his early years before moving to Iowa where he attended school in Kalona.

He retired in 1976 from Raids Quarries of Burlington, where he had worked with dynamite as well as a bulldozer and driller.

He married Lucille CLARK on Feb. 28, 1943 in Davenport. He is survived by his wife; two sons: Ken of Barnes City and Jerry of Winfield, Kansas; three daughters: June HATTON, Marilyn KELLY and Carolyn HARTMAN, all of Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Nancy SMITH of Panama City, Fla., and Dillie VODICKA of Kalona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jake SEXTON, Tom, John and Victor BLAKLEY, and one sister, Wilda HOOK.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

The family will be at the funeral chapel from 2-4 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be left to the Barnes City Rescue Unit. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
