Helen Mae WIANDT DALLER, 97, of Fairfield, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Gabriel and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church, with the Reverend Thomas Miller officiating. The body has been cremated.
Mrs. DALLER was born on November 17, 1916, in Highland Park, Michigan, the daughter of John Thomas and Maude Ethel WIANDT. She married Donald John DALLER on June 7, 1941. They were married for 60 years. He died on March 29, 2001.
She graduated from Highland Park High School in Detroit, where she was a competitive diver. She worked as a legal secretary, an executive secretary and a medical administration secretary.
She enjoyed ballroom dancing and square dancing, playing the piano and gardening. She won the Oakland County (Metropolitan Detroit) Senior Citizens Spelling Bee at age 89.
She had lived in Fairfield at SunnyBrook Assisted Living of Fairfield for the last four years, where she was known for her sharp wit, stylish dress and friendliness. She loved the staff there and at Jefferson County Health Center.
She enjoyed going to concerts in Fairfield, especially when her son Doug and granddaughter Adrien performed. She was a long time practitioner of Transcendental Meditation.
Survivors include three sons, Bill DALLER of Royal Oak, Michigan, Gerald DALLER and wife Carmen of Portland, Oregon and Douglas DALLER of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Grace WIANDT HUGHES and Pearl WIANDT BERRES.
