Marie HUFFMAN

Marie WHITMORE HUFFMAN, 97, of Batavia, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral was today at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Batavia with the Rev. Garry Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Batavia Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Gospel Lighthouse Church.

Mrs. HUFFMAN was born Dec. 22, 1907, in Ashland, the daughter of John and Myrintha LOVELESS McCARROLL. She married John B. WHITMORE March 19, 1927, in Ottumwa. He died Sept. 29, 1971. She married J. Edgar HUFFMAN Oct. 26, 1974. He died Dec. 6, 1978.

She was raised and educated south of Agency and attended Alpine rural school.

She and her first husband farmed in the Batavia area most of their adult lives. She was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Gospel Lighthouse Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Myrintha DAILEY and husband Floyd of Ottumwa and Margaret CARY and husband Charlie of Batavia; three sons, Marvin WHITMORE and wife Martilla of Batavia, Melvin WHITMORE and wife Judith of Fairfield and Merrill "Mike" WHITMORE and wife Sue of Henderson, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Connie PETERSEN and husband Chuck of Farmington, Minn., and Shirley PICKETT of Memphis, Tenn.; one stepson, Wallace HUFFMAN of Ames; one stepsister, Mary Lea PHILLIPS of Des Moines; one half-sister, June THOMPSON of Iowa Falls; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Calvin; three brothers, Roscoe, Rueben and Boyd McCARROLL; three sisters, Effie RAMSEY, Lula DURFLINGER, and Maude POOLE; one half-sister, Maxine McCARROLL; two half-brothers, Rex and Raymond McCARROLL; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
